Lisbon is a city built out of light. I had heard this before. I assumed it was the kind of thing people said about places they were trying to sell to you. It is not. It is the most precisely true thing anyone has said about a city in my hearing.
We visited eight studios in three days. The first seven were excellent, in the way that excellent studios usually are: deliberate, opinionated, well-organized about their inks. The eighth was a single room above a café, run by a painter who does not have a website and does not, as far as I can tell, particularly want one.
She showed us a small painting. The light coming off it changed the color of the room. We left and walked, without speaking, for half an hour. That is the only review I am willing to give.
